It's another boy!!!

Yep, it's another boy for the Houston family. At first, the tech was looking and couldn't tell because the umbilical cord was in the way, but says "I think it's a girl" so he went on to look at other things but as he was "scanning over" everything, he says "Oh, we definitely have a boy" Everything is great and normal so we are so very happy to have a healthy baby on the way. Of course Sam is a little relieved, he was scared to death of a girl. Looks like I'll stay the queen, I think it's a little unfair I'll be so outnumbered though.....LOL.
Here is the 1st pic of baby boy, now all we need is to come up with a name.

Teething is a pain!

Porter is getting his top 2 teeth so we have had a pretty tough week. He has been been pretty cranky and up 3-4 times the last couple of nights. (I don't miss the getting up, that's for sure) One morning he couldn't even breastfeed, poor little guy. The teething tablets seem to help a lot plus a lot of soft food. I just feel so bad for him when he's in pain. The teeth are showing now and he grinds them together, what an awful sound, it's like nails on a chalkboard. Luckily, he has only tried to bite once when breastfeeding but that was definitely enough!

Speaking of teeth, on Tuesday I got to have a root canal done. Oh boy, that was lots of fun. They did most of the work but I have to go back in May for them to do x-rays. They don't like to do the x-rays until the 3rd trimester since they have to be very detailed and do a lot of them just to make sure they got all the stuff out down to the root. And then after that is when I will get the crown. I want to say thank you to Sheri (nana) for coming and staying with Porter.

On Wednesday, Porter and I went to Baby Steps at the library. It's for babies 6-18 months and was so neat, they sing songs and read a couple of stories, Porter really enjoyed himself.

I also was able to catch a movie on Sunday, boy was that nice! I hadn't been to a movie in a year or so. We saw "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", it was so good!!! A real tearjerker for sure.

That's about our week in a nutshell. No big plans for the weekend at this point. I'm going to clean the carpets on Saturday so the boys will have to go hang out in the "man cave" (Sam's shop) Good thing there is a wood stove out there because we are supposed to get snow. It's been pretty cold, the trees are so pretty when they are frosty, here's a picture.

It's so fun to watch Porter grow and change, he's developing his own little personality. His new thing is to make all kinds of funny faces and he does this head tilt when you talk to him. He definitely has a little temper and he does NOT like to be told no. He's getting pretty quick at crawling and is now pulling himself up onto things and balancing on his knees. I'll leave off with a few pictures....

I love this one.....

A few more with funny faces......

That's it for now. Everyone have a great weekend!

Porter - The Big Boy!

Porter had his checkup today and everything is great! His height is 30 1/4" (95%) but he only weighs 20lbs 11oz (45%) So in 2 months he has grown 2 inches but only gained 1lb 4oz. I thought it was a little concerning like maybe he's not getting enough calories but his pediatrician says that about this age they taper off and it's not such a drastic change compared to when they are younger. Plus the only baby food he eats is baby oatmeal in the morning, everything else is people food. She said it's ok to start giving him a little whole milk to supplement since I want to start weaning him off breastmilk. He eats a lot of yogurt, cheese and cottage cheese so she says that's good that he hasn't developed any allergy or anything. All in all, she says he is perfect where he's at and keep doing what we're doing. That's good to hear since I always worry that he's not getting enough food. I can't believe he is almost 10 months old, crazy how time flies.

We don't have many big plans for the weekend. Sam will probably clean up the boat and Sunday Pittsburgh is playing, go Steelers!!!!

Everyone have a great weekend!

We didn't catch anything!

Well, sad to say that we didn't catch anything on our fishing excursion except a branch. We were up at 3:30am (which I've decided is still night and no one should be up at that time) got everything loaded, woke up Porter and were headed down the road at 4:05am. We arrived at the river at 6:30 and we were shocked there was only one other boat launching at that time (LOL) It wasn't too cold at 1st, we thought it would definitely warm up once the sun came up. So we headed out and cast and waited.....and waited....and waited. Once the sun came up, it did warm up to about 45, the water temp was only 38. All in all, it was a beautiful day, here is a picture of a little fog that rolled along the hills....
Porter did so good for it being cold. He would play on his blanket for awhile and then he would start to fuss and I would put him in my jacket with me to warm up and he would stay there for quite awhile. Some pictures of him all bundled up.....
One of Porter and Sam
Even Drake was cold, he jumped in the river when we 1st got there and then he would curl up in the corner on his rug.
About 11:45 or so, the wind really started picking up and it was very chilly so we decided to wrap it up and head in. We got back to the boat dock around 12:30 or so, loaded up and headed home. We had a great time and couldn't have asked for better weather in January.

I should get going, I have an appt with the dentist at 11:10 to get a cavity filled (UGH!)

And then tomorrow Porter has a doctor appt for a checkup, no shots this time thank goodness. I will probably post more then.

Keeping up with the busy body

I have to say how much fun it is to watch Porter crawling around everywhere, it's like he realizes he has this new found freedom and he can go anywhere......which is the downside! LOL You definitely cannot take your eyes off them for more than a minute or else the hunt is on, especially if you can't hear anything.....if it's quiet, that means he's into something he shouldn't be. All in all, he's pretty good about staying out of stuff, I think he knows now that Drake's water bowl is a no no, it's only taken a week, about a thousand "NO's" and a few little hand smacks. He's now beginning to pull himself up on stuff, I laid him down for a nap yesterday and I hear him fussing a little bit and it doesn't sound like a muffled fuss (usually he's under the covers and you barely hear it) so I go in to check on him and he's standing up holding on the front railing of his crib. I think he was stuck and not sure how to get back down. Thank goodness I lowered the crib and will now have to remember to lift up the side when I put him down.

I went to the dr. last Thursday and everything is great. Just hearing the heartbeat is so neat. I made the appt for the ultrasound and it's on Jan. 28th, I'm so excited to find out if it's a boy or girl. I have a feeling it's a girl so we'll see.

Sam has some extra vacation days to burn by the end of the month so we are going to take the boat up to the mouth of the Deschutes tomorrow and go sturgeon fishing. Sam got some Cabela's gift cards for his b-day and Christmas so he ordered a fish finder and bunch of other goodies for the boat. He was busy over the weekend getting it all ready so it should be lots of fun. We are crossing our fingers that it isn't going to rain. So hopefully when we get back tomorrow night, I'll have some pictures to post.

That's about it for now. Just a few pictures from the last week.

Porter playing peek-a-boo

Porter ate some noodles for lunch.....

Eating more noodles the next day, this time they were way more saucy, like you couldn't tell.....LOL

We have a crawler on our hands!

Well it's official - Porter has figured out the whole crawling business. Sam helped out by holding something out for him and he followed it and now he is off on his own. Life as I know it is about to change dramatically! The only thing he wants to crawl to is something that is off limits - Drake's water bowl. I of course had my camera ready to capture everything on video. Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

I have been slacking on the blog lately so I'll have quite a few pictures to post....LOL. We had a wonderful Christmas! Lee and Sheri came over Christmas Eve day so they could make it over, we had a storm move in and dump a bunch of snow that night. We all woke up to a beautiful, white Christmas morning.

Porter in front of the tree saying "Merry Christmas"

Porter with mommy and daddy

After having breakfast, we dug into our tremendous pile of gifts. Porter of course got spoiled by Nana and Grandpa, he got a pony that makes sounds and moves it's head and tail, he was quite intrigued as you can see

A picture of Porter hanging out with Nana and Grandpa

After cleaning up from that endeavor, we look out the window to see 9 deer just cruising down the road. Well they decided to jump our fence and head into our backyard to eat the apples (after digging them up from under the snow)
We were all just watching them including Drake just whimpering at the door....well, Sam comes around the corner and wonders why we haven't let Drake out so he opens the door before we had a chance to tell him but too late.....Drake was off on the chase. A few of the younger deer hit the fence while trying to get away and a few Drake chased around the shop and ran them off the other direction. We had to give Sam a bad time about it.

Friday morning we all got up and had breakfast and Lee and Sheri headed back to Prineville and we headed over the Roseburg to my mom's. The roads were pretty bad, packed snow and pretty icy. Once we hit the junction at Hwy 138, I asked Sam if he could pull over as I had a feeling that Porter had filled his pants. Well, he just pulled right up to the snow bank on the side of the road, I changed Porter and got him buckled back in so we were ready to take off again.....wrong! Sam tried to pull out but he pulled too close to the snow bank and the more he tried to get out, the more we got stuck. The front end just started sinking further and further in. Sam got out and tried to dig the snow out from under the tires, the snow was almost up to his waist! A nice couple in a Subaru stopped and helped by digging and then another couple in a suburban stopped and was able to pull us out with a rope. It was quite interesting, a picture to remind Sam that he will never live down...LOL. After about 25 minutes, we were headed down the road again....

When we FINALLY made it to Roseburg, my mom had an excellend prime rib dinner waiting for us. My sister and Zoey, my brother, my gram and papa, my mom and Lee were all there to enjoy it with us. After dinner we opened more gifts and of course, Porter was spoiled again! My mom got him a really cool rug that looks like a racetrack, I'm sure he will really enjoy it when he's bigger. (My sister and zoey got him a little scooter/walker toy that he likes, I will post a video of it later)

A picture of Porter and Zoey

On Saturday, we headed down to Riddle to spend some time with Melissa, Ella, Rick and Bernice. They too spoiled Porter so we came back with a trunk full! Porter got a talking Elmo which he thinks is very funny.

On Saturday night, my dad came over and we had leftover prime rib. We exchanged Christmas gifts with him and gave him a new camera for his b-day present, his b-day is Christmas Eve.

Then on Sunday morning, we got everything loaded up and headed home. It got so warm and rained so much the river was so high and so brown compared to when we drove over on Friday. One lane of Hwy 138 was closed past Glide due to a mudslide that took some trees down with it.
(I didn't take many pictures and then I left my camera in Roseburg. Thank you to my mom for sending it to me)

We laid low on New Year's, had pizza and went to bed early. I tell ya next year I'm having a drink! Not that I'm a big drinker but this is 2 New Year's in a row I've been pregnant.

Nothing too exciting going on for the weekend. Just trying to round up the last of the decorations to put away for next year.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. And Happy New Year, best wishes for a great 2009!
